How does it know how to tell you it is time for an oil change? How does a car measure oil quality?
It's a very complex formula that doesn't work! It's also a great waste of our $$ for this system. People don't use it anyway!
It measures alot of factors. Temp @ start-Miles driven-average speed-run time......yada yada=Bunch of bull!
Go 3-5k on your changes (oil %26amp; filter) %26amp; you'll be fine, DO NOT go by those lights...................unless it's a lease, you'll be fine.
BTW-Don't EVER buy a lease!
PS-8ball=';thumbs up'; %26amp; why would any1 ';thumbs down'; the other answers? How does a car measure oil quality?
As always year make and model? Pontiac and BMW also use the number of cold starts and hours and milage to determine when the oil change light turns on. I change my oil much sooner than the idiot light. I LIKE MY CAR'S ENGINE
it doesnt really measure oil quality. theres a sensor that calculates how may miles you driven and when it gets to the specific miles, then it reminds you to change the oil.
It doesn't really measure oil quality... It's more like the total miles or engine operating hours since the last oil change.
It麓s the computer that calculates it with the mileage and the cold starts.
An engine can not tell you anything about the quality of the oil, it麓s the operator or the person who checks the oil who should be able to see how good or bad the oil is.
VISCOSITY......thickness in the oil....the cars are programed to show service light every 3000 miles and U have a reset button in your fuse box to turn it off...THE CAR IS NOT THAT SMART!!
There is a computer in the car that measures the rpm's, load, etc. It directs this info. to the computer.
the car doesn't. it measures oil quantity, not quality. the quality of oil, is measured by you. that is why they put these reminders on your front windshield, for when is the next time to change the oil(or at what milage). On top of that you are supposed to check the oil dip stick , (the one with yellow ring), and touch the oil, rub it betwwen your fingers, and see it is still oily, or more thinned out, and if the color is clear brown, or black and tainted.try it, and you will know exactly what i am talking about.
good luck.
The car doesn't, people do.
Hi,
here are two of the basic ways a vehicle will light up a reminder for an oil change...
First, and the simplest, is a computer keeps track of your mileage and turns on the oil change light at a predetermined mileage (3000, 3500, etc.). Obviously, this isn't measuring quality, just distance.
Second, every fluid has a certain resistance to electrical current.
Computers are programmed to record the electrical resistance between two sensors in the oil, and if that resistance falls between a preestablished set of numbers in the computer's memory, the computer's little brain says ok and nothing happens.
Oil is burned and broken down during the engine's run cycle (it's viscosity changes) and when this happens, depending on your driving conditions, the electrical resistance will change and that change will fall outside the established parameters. The computer turns on the light that says get yourself to the oil mongers.
