Pull your dipstick and look at the oil. If it is clean they most likely changed it.
Best way is to check your oil before you take your car to have the oil changed.
Then check your oil after the station has changed your oil.
If you do not know how to check your oil have a chap you know and trust show you how to do it.
Also check your oil filter and make sure they have changed your oil filter as well. How can you tell they've really changed your car oil when you are not there to see them do it?
Check the colour of the oil on you dipstick.
If it is mostly black then they probably have not changed it.
If it is mostly clear then they have.
If you are not sure ask a friend to check for you.
Good Luck !
when checking the dip stick...the oil on the stick will be very clear looking.
You can check the oil on the dip stick to see if it's clean new oil or dirty black old oil. You can also look at the oil filter to see if it's new and clean looking. Sometimes they don't change the filter but they should. The filter holds a quart of old oil. It will mix in with the new if they don't change it.
Check your oil before and after the oil change if the oil looks clear then it was changed. It should have been black before the change and almost clear after. You also should see if the filter has been changed.
Look at it....All you have to do is locate the dip stick, which is used to check your oil (i.e. see how low it is and the color), and see if it is a clear, carmely brown color or black. If it's black you got robbed. If it's lighter then your good.
Yeah its very simple and not too difficult. Based upon the color of the oil that appears on the dipstick, you could easily see if it has been changed or not.
One day when you have the chance, go to Pep Boys, or another car parts place, and go to the oil department and open a new bottle of oil. Stick a pencil, or a toothpick, or whatever you have, your fingertip, down inside the opening, pull it up and look at it closely. The color of the new oil is an amber, or goldish color- definitely NOT black, or ';dirty'; looking.
I'm not talking about 'synthetic' oils, I'm talking about SAE 10-30, or something like that.
why would they just not do it? Check to see how clean the oil is on your dipstick. If it's clean and full, you know they did what they needed to do.
Check the dipstick
Your Dip Stick is the answer.
check the dipstick. how new is your car? oil is not black anymore unless you have a diesel or a really poorly maintaned vehicle. look for a new oil filter. your oil would be almost trabsparent like vegitable oil a little color brownish would mean nothing. if you feel you are getting ripped off go somewhere else. Personally, you should probably take it for what its worth and just trust that it was done. regardless it only takes a place fifteen minutes to change the oil anyway.
