Our kitten found the tub of oil in the garage and fell in, we have given it a bath and what not, but she still has the smell of oil. Any one know how to get rid of it with out hurting her? Or if anyone knows if she will make it since she is licking herself as a normal kitten/cat does with the oil NOT COMPLETLY gone??Whats the best way to remove car oil from a kittens fur?
The mildest type of Dawn you can find (no bleach, fragrance free if you can find it, etc...) would be the way to go I think, and at the very least *call* the vet and ask for advice. When there's a possibility your kitty's life may be in danger, don't sit on the problem. Seek a professional opinion immediately!!
Hmm... as an after thought I have also heard of people using cornstarch or baby powder to remove excess oils from oily fur. I think that's more for natural oils if the cat has oily fur. (But that must mean that those substances have some oil absorbing properties.) That way you can get rid of the excess oils but don't risk drying out the cat's fur or skin from over bathing.
So if your kitten still has very oily fur, perhaps try rubbing her down with some baby powder or cornstarch, then giving her the bath with dawn. ( Make sure you brush it out real well first or you'll just end up with a goopy, pasty, oily mess. :P )
Good luck and hope your kitty is 100% soon! :)Whats the best way to remove car oil from a kittens fur?
Aagh! Try washing the kitten with Dawn dishwashing detergent--that's what the rescue folks use on the water birds when there's an oil spill. Just use with lukewarm water %26amp; make sure to rinse thoroughly, repeating the sudsing if necessary to get the rest of the oil out. It's worth a try -- if it gets sick because of the oil, it'll probably throw up. Hope it works.
Use a dishwashing liquid of some kind, and wash her as thoroughly as you can manage.
If you're not sure you've gotten the oil out completely it might be a good idea to contact a vet, just in case.
Use a mild dish washing liquid (like Palmolive) if it's just got messy feet or something, if it fell in completely you should also call the vet, as it is probably toxic if the kitten ingested any of it.
AWE... Maybe you can use dove dish washing soap. On the dove commercials it shows them cleaning ducks that have been caught in oil spills. Call the vet. I hope you figure something out.
vet. i would expect the oil to kill her.
if it was just a small spot of oil, either cut the fur off, or use a hand degreaser, like GOOP.
I know when that tanker spilled all that oil back in the 90's they were washing oily birds with dish soap. But she's licking it I would take her to the vet.
Dawn dishwashing liquid works really well. I had a kitten that got into motor oil and this worked well and was recommended by my Vet.
Dawn dish soap
it what they use to clean oil from animals that are caught in oil spills
warm water and dawn dishsoap (NO BLEACH OR BLEACH ALTERNATIVE) and call the emergency vet
