Do you wait for the ';Change Engine Oil'; light to go on before changing your car oil?

Or, do you change it when the sticker says to change it. (The sticker they give you when you get your oil changed at quick change oil places. )

I was told the sticker of when to change the oil, is just so they can sell more oil. Is that true?Do you wait for the ';Change Engine Oil'; light to go on before changing your car oil?
Change it as per the sticker.

I would never trust an ';idiot light'; as I like to call them.

These lights work off oil pressure differences on both sides of your filter housing. Therefore when or if the light comes on realistically it is nearly to late and damage is imminent.

Cheers, hope this explains it for you.Do you wait for the ';Change Engine Oil'; light to go on before changing your car oil?
absolutely not, you should change your oil every 3,000 miles to keep it at its peak. the sticker is there to remind you when your next 3,000 miles is. It is not vital that you change your oil every 3,000 miles now when it is new but....when your car gets old and has lots of miles on it, it will have lasted a lot longer for you if you had kept up the oil changes through out its life.
I would only go by that light if it were to come on BEFORE my next scheduled oil change.
In some newer model cars the oil is monitored by an LED as it enters the engine. The consistency of the oil is the measured in a percentage form of opacity. When your readout reaches 15%, I believe thats when you are supposed to change it. As for the older model cars the oil light can wait until critical points to come on. It is very good practice to stick with the 3,000 miles/3 months rules. Highway drivers and commuters can normally go 4000 miles just because the oil isn't being put through as harsh of conditions. Hope that helps.
not necessarily,

my father is a mechanic,

and he makes sure i change my engine oil every 3,000 miles.

it is not safe to wait till the last possible moment.

keep it safe.

:)
Yes the engine has an oil life monitor whitch measures the oils viscosity and dirt and miles driven and time since last oil change then trips the light on. So you can wait till the light comes on or you can keep making the oil companys richer!!!
If you car has an indicator light that tells you when to change the oi, wait for this light to come on.

Yes, they ask you to come in before that so they can sell you mor oil and services.

Here’s a money saving tip for you… Don’t change your oil any more than necessary. The idea of changing you oil every three months or 3,000 miles has been pounded into our heads by the oil change industry for years. But is it really necessary? Maybe, maybe not. But many people buy into the idea that frequent oil changes are “cheap insurance,” so why not do it?

While changing your car’s oil too often won’t hurt it, doing so is a waste of money. And besides, if you go to one of those Quicky-Lube places to get your oil changed, do you really want a minimum wage grease monkey messing with your car any more than is absolutely necessary?

According to Tom and Ray Magliozzi (a.k.a., Click %26amp; Clack of Car Talk fame), a general rule of thumb would be to change your oil and filter every 5,000 miles. They do, however, recognize that this will be too soon for many people, and a bit late for a few.

As far as I’m concerned, the best approach is to check your owner’s manual. While some cars still need to have their oil changed every 3,000 miles, others can safely go as far as 10,000 miles between changes. Keep in mind that most manufacturers recommend a shorter interval between oil changes if you drive under ‘extreme conditions’ such as extremely high temperature, exceptionally dirty/dusty operating conditions, regularly towing a load, or frequent short trips in cold weather. If you’re concerned, err on the side of the extreme driving conditions. But there’s no need to blindly follow the 3,000 mile rule of thumb.
no, since the engine oil light doesn't come up unless theres low oil level, you must change the engine oil when you drive a certain distance, since it looses its viscosity due to the heat generated by friction between cylinders and pistons, hence theres no lubrication then so your engine will overheat and cause great deal of damage. remember light doesn't come up unless theres leak so change the oil on depending on the distance you travel, the better the oil kind, the more distance u can travel without changing... its written on the oil can how much distance u can travell before oil change....
H to the No you dont wait for the light!! The sticker is so your engine lives long and strong!
