How the hell do you run your car on veggii oil ?

im not driving yet and i looked in search engines and how to use it and crap.

questions.

Does it require a certain type of engine ?

Does your car run on vegetable oil ?

i mean i just want to kno cuz like i wanna not be a butthole and ruin the ozone layer bullshit. How the hell do you run your car on veggii oil ?
Bio -Diesel is term used for mix of treated veggie oil and diesel- about 2-5% veg oil mix currently in Minnesota. Willy Nelson has a bus working on 90 % treated fry oil- noted to smell like popcorn. Study Rudolph Diesel history on various fuels- including sunflower oil- used in Diesel engines. How the hell do you run your car on veggii oil ?
'Crash' is correct- I'm just adding some details:

Look about for nearly any of the Euro-made cars- they adopted diesel years ago, before emissions crud caught up with them. Look for mid-80's to mid-90's Mercedes Benz sedans first, 'cause some shop in LA specializes in conversions for ~$750 (involves a fuel heater to warm up veggie oil on cold starts) the rest is fine-tuning.

The VW Golf-D also works just fine, just not as popular.
car has to have a diesel engine to run on vegetable oil.

it was the cfc's used in old air conditioners %26amp; hair spray that damaged the ozone. its been outlawed for years so just enjoy your drive.

Do i need to change a car engine oil or just simply refill it?

Well i have done my service 3 months ago and they have change a new oil for me. Now my car running low on engine oil, so I am wondering do i need to change it or refill it. Also do i need to use the particular brand from my mechanic or can buy other brand.

ThanksDo i need to change a car engine oil or just simply refill it?
You need to change it. Even if you were going to use the same oil type you should drain it and replace it.

I assume you know how to change the oil in your car but if not here's a nifty link

http://autorepair.about.com/od/regularmaintenance/ss/oil_change.htmDo i need to change a car engine oil or just simply refill it?
If your car is running low on oil you need to find out why and fix it. Cars do not normally use or lose oil. When they do something is wrong which, if not fixed, could lead to the destruction of the engine. Get it fixed.
Add oil. Use the same kind that is in the engine now.
You should always change the oil. Adding oil does not remove the corrosive particles within the oil. Use oil that is somewhat thick since in the summer heat thins it, something like 20-30 or 40 wt.This is better in your case because a 10-20- wt would slip through the pistons easier. Never mix different kinds of oil. You are safe to use most any brand sold in super stores.
until next service you can refill, but do not overfill. Should use same brand as well as weight of oil, like 10-40 wt or whatever was used. Ask your mechanic.
Any brand of oil sold for cars should work but you can also go with the recommendation from your mechanic. You do need to drain out that old oil in your car when you do the oil change, it's just better for your car to run on clean new oil.

Hope this helps.
change every 5000 miles burning it or leaking it? check oil filter make shure its tight also same for drain plug
You really need to find out why the car is leaking or using oil. If it's leaking, fix the leak! Otherwise, you should change the oil every 3,000 miles. You can just fill it if it's low before that. Use the same weight and viscosity oil (5w-30, 10w-30, 10w-40) that is recommended for your car. Look in the owner's manual for that info.
like the others said find the leak an fix it if no leak then you have bigger problems , either bad valve guides or even worn piston rings and dont just put any oil in that car if it is using oil and has some miles on it you need to use high mileage oil but if not use the oil the car calls for from the dealership but do not use synthetic if you do then you cannot switch back without an engine flush good luck
Just adding to it will be fine

  • Is it illegal to drive your diesel car on vegetable oil and chip fat?

i have a friend who drives their 17 year old diesel peugeot using old chip fat and vegetable oil, but he was told this is illegal and he faces a fine if he is caught, and even imprisonment. Is this true?Is it illegal to drive your diesel car on vegetable oil and chip fat?
In July 2007 it was made legal to use vegetable oil as a motor fuel with no duty payable as long as you use no more than 2.500 litres in 12 months. (UK)Is it illegal to drive your diesel car on vegetable oil and chip fat?
Yes you can use vegetable oil to run your car as stated you can use 2500 litres per year with no need to register with C%26amp;E however keep your receipts as proof of useage. But don't forget that if you go over this limit you are liable to duty on the whole amount used and you would need to register. Most older diesels can run with a 50/50 mix of diesel and veggie with no ill effects however I would not advise its use in a more modern common rail diesel engine. Seals in the pump can be damaged by veggie oil this seems to be a particular problem with Lucas pumps. If you wish to run 100% vegetable oil you will need to add heaters to the fuel lines and use upgraded injectors etc cost of conversion is about 拢1000 depending on supplier. I run a 1996 2.8TD Mitsubishi Pajero on a 70/30 mix in winter and a 50/50 mix in summer have a look on our club web site www.pocuk.co.uk in the forum under bio fuels .
No this is not illegal you can even buy a machine now to clean the old oil up which is the best way. if you just put it straight into the tank old chip fat and oil has water content in it and could give you lots of problems with blocked fuel injectors and injector pump problems ,

I have had to do one or two clean up jobs already on this

also this ';emulsifys'; in the fuel lines which looks like old lard when it goes like that

    Hope this helps
You must pay duty on ALL road fuel regard less.

You MUST keep records of all the oil that you use as road fuel and seek to pay the duty.

If you do get pulled by HM Customs and Revenue and you do not have complete records you'll loose you car plus a fine and estimated back duty

On the other hand you could chance it like the thousands of other people that are doing it.
It is, unless you register with HMR%26amp;C, keep records and pay fuel duty.

You can get caught out at a roadside ';dip test';, if they find anything but DERV in the system they'll check the records and if you haven't been doing the right thing they can sieze the car and take you to court. It's classed as tax evasion.
As I understand it, if you wish to produce your own bio fuel, you can produce 2500 litres, after which you need to disclose the fact and pay revenue. I think perhaps the advice you have been given, sorry, your ';friend'; is being confused with the penalty for exceeding the allowance. Strictly speaking, you ought, for your own protection, keep a record of the amount used.
your supposed to register it with the Inland Revenue and pay the appropriate tax, its technically tax evasion.
Sorry but phillip is right on this one, its a question of taxation or duty. Strangley though its Customs and Excise that are responsible for it.
I believe you are allowed to burn 2500 litres in any one year. Read this somewhere this week.
its not illegal as such but you have to inform the authorities if you use over a certain amount
how could it be illegal if your friend is using an environmental friendly alternative fuel?
They should overlook the taxes when going green. The laws are bs sometimes.
No way its same as BIO, the only illegal diesel is RED off road use, but if you put old engine oil in ! ( it turns grey )
    No, it's not.
i think it is! but its better for the environment!

How do i run my diesel car on vegetable oil?

Okay so i'm going through with this finally. I want my car to smell like popcorn when it runs.

I have an old deisel Mercedes and there is a place i know that can convert it in Los Angeles for $600.

*I am looking for websites that can tell me how to use the veg. oil or how to store it or make it. All that good stuff.

    Feedback or suggestions anyone?

-Thanks!How do i run my diesel car on vegetable oil?
Try it this way: http://www.dieselsecret.com/index.html an Ex co-worker of mine used this and made it work

About oil light, is there anything wrong if a car's oil light is red when the key turns to on ?

When I put the key to my Ford laser 1995 LXi and turned it to on, the oil light was red like seat belts, charge, brake. But when I ignited the engine, the oil light then turned off. I checked the oil level and saw it was still full. Is there anything wrong with my car or that's normal like any other cars?About oil light, is there anything wrong if a car's oil light is red when the key turns to on ?
Normal. If the oil light does NOT come on, (or one of the other lights that normally do) then the bulb is burnt out and needs replaced. It's sort of a bulb test every time you turn to ON. About oil light, is there anything wrong if a car's oil light is red when the key turns to on ?
Normal. You have to worry if there is no light when turned on. Its means that you have a busted bulb or the oil switch is damaged.
Cluster lights are supposed to turn on to acknowledge the effectiveness of the system making sure they will light up when necessary. When you turn the key.
It is set up that way so you can verify that the warning lights are working. Duh.

    That is normal.
    ITS GONNA BLOW!!!

How can I tell if my car's synthetic oil needs changing?

The manual for my car says change it every 5,000 miles or every 12 months, whichever comes first. I'm nowhere near 5,000 miles (got about 2,000 left), but it's been almost 8 months. I took it in at 6 months for a change, but the dealership wouldn't change it and said it wasn't necessary. This hasn't been a problem before, because once upon a time I drove 5,000 miles in about 4 months' time. But now, I live in Boston and I do nothing but stop-and-go driving, and I drive less than 5,000 in a year. The oil level is fine, but I'm not sure what to look for with the oil itself to determine wether or not it needs to be changed early. How can I tell if my car's synthetic oil needs changing?
Look at the oil itself. If it is dark and dirty, replace it. If its still clear, you're fine. City driving really puts a strain on the engine more than highway driving. How can I tell if my car's synthetic oil needs changing?
There is no indication by simply looking at your engine oil to determine the condition of the oil.

If in doubt, change it out........
I would not worry about it, My Buick has a change oil light that comes on when the oil needs changed based on driving conditions. The owners manual states to change the oil at least every 12 months. I would change synthetic oil after 7500 miles or 12 months.

Your owners manual is referring to regular oil,you can push synthetic blend a little more and full synthetic even further.

You can't tell by looking whether oil is bad or not you have to send a sample to a lab to have it analysed like they do diesel locomotive and ships diesel and turbine engines.

If your oil is dark it is normal carbon buidup in your engine and not a indicator of the condition of the oil
Take a business card that is pourous, put a dab of oil off your dipstick on it. The oil will be soaked into card leaving dirt and whatever particles that are in the oil. If it is too dirty change it, you will see what I mean if you try this.
you should be fine with full synthetic. You didn't say what brand it is. I use Amsoil in all 3 of our vehicles. It recommends 1 year/ 25,000 mile oil drains. here's an interesting link that discusses how Europeans have gone over 10,000 miles on oil for years: http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=14鈥?/a>

Do i need a full 5 quarts of oil in my car in every oil change?

I read in some car manuals that adding more than 5 quarts is too much for an engine intake. I have a toyota carolla (91) and i only put 4 quarts of oil in mine..I am just wondering should i add another quart to be on the safe side?Do i need a full 5 quarts of oil in my car in every oil change?
read the owners manual. put in the amount it specifies.Do i need a full 5 quarts of oil in my car in every oil change?
there is a thing called a dip stick, when the oil touches safe you are golden
Put in the amount of oil your manual says. If you don't have a manual, then call a dealer of the car make you own and ask them.

And HEY, learn to use your dipstick! You know, the one in the car.

[HeHe] [I had to use my chance!]
You use what the manufactorer suggests. When you change the filter that adds another quart. You can also place you car on a level surface and check the oil level. If you have changed the filter make sure you run the car for a couple of minutes so that oil has filled the filter. Once that is done check the oil by looking at the engine oil dip stick.
Your specific car came with an owners manual. All cars are not the same. Check your owners' manual for how much your car needs. If you don't have a manual for some reason, you can call the local dealership or get a manual at the auto parts store.

    Blessings, W.
Look in your owners manual (or online) and it should give you an oil capacity... 5 quarts seems like an awful lot for that car. My 4.3V6 engine only takes about 4陆 quarts
no some 4 cyl. cars only hold 3 or 4 qts. 5 can kill them. call dealer. they will tell ya.
Just check your dip stick when your done. Some engines have a smaller capacity--------IT ALSO DEPENDS WHETHER YOU CHANGED YOUR FILTER OR NOT
No. Put in only what the owners manual says. Overfilling can cause oil foaming.
Most cars do take 4 quarts. Only the older V-8's take 5. If you do add more, you will be replacing your rings at the least because it will blow them out. Very expensive.
Read your owners manual to find the capacity of oil for your vehicle. Do not exceed the recommended capacity as too much oil can foul your spark plugs or worse damage. Oil needs space to circulate inside the engine.
4 qts is a good starting point, it actually will take a bit more, put the 4 in, then start engine for apx 5 min, let sit for the same, check on dip stick, add oil to bring within 2 lines on dip stick
Put in the amount it tells you to in the owners manual.

If it says 5 quarts put in 5

If you don't you will burn up the engine in the car.

A quart of oil is much cheaper than a new engine.
Check *your* car manual. Too much oil can cause as many problems as too little. After you change your oil, wait a few minutes %26amp; check the dipstick...that will tell you if you need more or less...but if you need less...it is kind of too late! You can't get it out.
not all cars require the same amounts

read the manual and check after you have added the oil

if you put in too much it can be bad for youe engine

My car uses synthetic oil. What happen when you put regular oil in it? Will it ruin the O2 sensor?

We went to have the oil changed and they put in regular oil and not synthetic. Since then we have changed the oil.My car uses synthetic oil. What happen when you put regular oil in it? Will it ruin the O2 sensor?
Whatever type of oil you used, doesn't got anything to do with the 02 sensor(oxygen sensor). The 02 sensor goes to the center of the ';Y'; end of the exhaust manifolds(ex,V6) before the catalytic converter, and the main purpose of the 02 is strickly for fuel consumption cause it detects rich or lean mixture of fuel during idle or acceleration. The oil itself stays in the engine oil pan, and the oil lubricate the moving parts in two ways; 1) by pick up tubes (oil pump) to oil galleys and through camshaft/crankshaft bearings and other moving parts..2) Splashing of oil through out the cranck case system...One good thing about synthetic is easy starting due to the fact that oil filament always stays on the engine parts as compared to regular oil (parts are dry). Also the engine is cleaner (free of gum) which is common for regular oil. Oil additives known as ZDDP Plus (zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate) are not known to the public. This extreme pressure additives are used by racers, and people that owned show cars to protect their investment ( old high performance engines) One bottle of ZDDP Plus 4oz. bottle is equivalent to 32 oz. of GM EOS, used by GM when they first sell the cars to the public. Most synthetic oil probably contained minimal OES to protect(bullet proof so to speak) the engine, but still better compared to regular oil...So once again the oil doesn't affect the 02 sensor, unless the engine is burning oil (bad valve guide seals, where oil scapes and mixed with the fuel and air) but this is not very common unless the engine is more than 200,000+ miles or more...My car uses synthetic oil. What happen when you put regular oil in it? Will it ruin the O2 sensor?
Ruin the O2 Sensor?? I had to stop laughing to type a responce here..... The O2 sensor is in the exhaust stream and has absolutely NOTHING to do with whats in the engines crankcase..... Your in good shape - if the O2 sensor goes bad it wont have anything to do with the grade of oil your using.....
no worries the regular oil wont harm any sensors or do any damage to your car
you can change back and forth as many times as you like and it won't hurt the engine or sensors one bit.
you can put vegetable oil or olive oil ........it'll not spoil the sensor
    no

  • Will my car's used oil spill on the way to the service station?

So I'm about to change my own oil for the first time, and bought all the items I think I need. But I had a thought, the drain pan is more wide than it is tall, won't the used oil spill out when I take it to a service station? Also, should I put a plastic bag inside it so I won't have to clean it out later? Any help/advice? I'm hoping this goes as clean as possible. Thanks. Will my car's used oil spill on the way to the service station?
Use an empty plastic milk jug or just pour it into the oil oil bottles you used. Get a good wide funnel. Will my car's used oil spill on the way to the service station?
i dont know...hey whaddya think ... what is the best car in da world???
    Do bears crap in woods?.
Ya better leave it up to someone else or at least have someone else around to watch you.
if you are going to change it yourself put it in a container with a lid.if you are going to take it to get changed don't mess with anything let them change it.if you don't know what yo are doing you could tare up your ride.

I bought a used car and the oil was last changed on december of 2006, should i change the oil?

The car has 71,000 miles and the next oil change is due when the car has 72,000 miles but the last oil change was about a year and some months ago. I noticed that when I drive the car sometimes it starts shaking, kinda like it wants to stop. Auto machanics have checked the car and say they don't find anything wrong. Could it be the oil that causes the car to shake sometimes i use it?I bought a used car and the oil was last changed on december of 2006, should i change the oil?
';NO MATTER WHAT!'; Never Go Past 10 Months on an Oil %26amp; Filter Change!! Also have the System Flushed!I bought a used car and the oil was last changed on december of 2006, should i change the oil?
(YES) averry 6 monuth's of havey use's! teran-z all so
I doubt the oil does that but you should go ahead and change it. Cars under 15 years old typically only need oil changed every 5000 miles unless you drive stop and go constantly, then 3000. But for now go ahead and get it changed. I would find a different mechanic to find the source of the shaking; that isn't right to be doing that.
    no but change the oil
Yes, please change it, every 3,000 miles or 3 months, which ever comes first. Unless the car has synthetic.
no shaking cause by lack of oil change unless internal engine component has a failure. at least change oil once a year. ideally every 3 months or 3000 miles, with everday driving.
I dont know about the shakes but you are to change your oil every 3000 mi or 3 months, whatever comes first. I would be to be on the safe side. Sounds like it has sat awhile, so maybe moisture is in it.

The shakeing might be from moisture in the gas tank, try some ';HEET'; in it first or some type of gas stabilizer.
wouldn't have anything to do with the oil change.

try a set of spark plugs
It wouldn't hurt to change the oil, just for piece of mind. It sounds more likely that you have a fuel problem though, with the car shaking and wanting to stall.
please change every 3000 miles are 3 months shaking could be anything like just replaceing fuel filter and i would strongly recommend that if you have that long on your oil you do complete tune up plugs wire cap button, pvc valve fuel filter
    Change the oil.

    It's an inexpensive maintenance procedure.

If you didn't change it and a mechanical failure occurred before 72000 you'd be out a lot more $.

Many sources recommend changing the oil every 3-5 thousand miles or every 3-4 months which ever comes first.

Your car is way overdue based on the time the oil was changed last.

    The shaking? I don't know?
    yes change it.
I really don't know what to tell you...I have a ford explorer and it used to shake then the drive shaft sheared off the rear and I managed to find a replacement part and changed it out myself and all the shaking and alot of the noises stopped. If you have a front wheel drive vehicle this will not be your problem. Take it to a mechanic not to the people that sold it to you and have them run a diagnostic check. It might be something as simple as a fuel filter. Good luck!

How easy is it to run my old diesel car of rapeseed oil/ any oil?whats the best oil?

I,ve had enough of the rising price of fuel do i need to get any apparatus/ can i just put it straight in what ratio. I will thank you now for any info that will help me/you to squeeze a little bit back of our hard earned money from these money grabbing b@stards. Thanks and happy new yearHow easy is it to run my old diesel car of rapeseed oil/ any oil?whats the best oil?
    The short answer is yes.

    The longer answer is :

It is possible to use cooking oi as a fuel; either Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO) or processed used cooking oil (Bio-Diesel).

SVO is as it says; straight from the supermarket and into your tank. In cold weather it will be difficult to start unless you pre heat the oil (heater in your tank) or 'cut' the fuel with standard diesel (in very cold weather about 50/50 is ok). SVO is thicker than diesel at low temperatures (they both get thicker but SVO gets very thick). Very efficient glowplugs and a healthy battery will be necessary.

During summer it may only be necessary to use a small percentage of diesel in your tank . You may go as far as getting another tank fitted and an arrangement by which you use diesel to get started and cooking oil once started, it's easy enough to sort out.

Some lift pumps cannot cope with the thickness of SVO and may have to be changed - there are planty of suppliers oon the internet.

SVO has a higher viscosity index than diesel at normal working temperatures and therefore there is no risk to the close critical components of a diesel fuel system.

SVO reduces hydrocarbon emissions significantly, although you will smell like a chippy.

SVO come from a renewable energy source and the crbon bill for this product has already been written, it was likely to end up in some grotty land fill site after it had been used to fry chips.

C%26amp;E may require you to declare use and pay duty on it's use; when I lived in the UK C%26amp;E only required you to pay the duty if you produced the fuel and they had been round to inspect the production facility - this amy have changed.

Bio-Diesel is processed 'used' cooking oil there are plenty of web sites to let you know how to produce it, but basically you need to filter the used oil - heat it to a constant 55 degrees celsius (an old immersion heter is ideal) and mix it with a couple of other agents to destroy the startches from when it was used to cook with - et voila you have bio-diesel.

The implications of using bio-diesel are:

Easier starting and the smell is much reduced, more like a bit of a barbeque than a chippy.

C%26amp;E will definitely want their pound of flesh as you are now a bio-diesel producer and they will want to visit you and check your records and premises.

Some of the big name companies like to say they are using bio-diesel, but it is not pure bio-diesel it is 5% bio-diesel. All they are doing are jumping on the 'Green' band wagon. The same goes for the large supermarkets who sell bio diesel on their forecourts it's 5% or less bio.

I've been using this for years and I believe diesel is 拢1.10 a litre in some areas and with cooking oil at 70 pence a litre it makes financial sense.

Just C%26amp;C'dthis from an answer I gave earlierHow easy is it to run my old diesel car of rapeseed oil/ any oil?whats the best oil?
    Try this site, http://www.dieselveg.com/
in reality diesel engine may run with almost anything (oily things)except gasoline.

the inconvenience is ....You have to find the way of liquified the oil (thinnier) so that won't clogg the injector nozzle.......or worse......make molasse in the combustion chamber.

be careful .diesel engine doesn't accept any moisture( minute amount of water)
I use 80% diesel to 20% any deep frying cooking oil off the shelf from tescos.

Been doing it for 2 years in Peugeot 1.9 diesel.

    No problems............

It's better for the environment too.
Citroen c15 1.9 running on cheap neat cooking oil for 2yrs,only problem is getting rid of all them 2lt poly bottles!
Mixtures of 10% ';biodiesel'; should be manageable for an older car.

At higher mixtures say above 20% you run the risk of the car not starting and the fuel eating into the gaskets.

Professionaly converted cars have a separate diesel tank for starting and had their gaskets changed.

Rapeseed Oil isn't particularly eco friendly as it's CO2 impact isn't very good and it displaces food production.

The small German company Choren is working on a process to create second generation ';Sun Fuel'; using only waste material, like hay and branches and leaves from the forestry industry. So no one has to starve to death.
As stated before, deisels will burn almost anything. In fact the first diesel motor ran on peanut oil.

There are two ways you can run your diesel on vegtable oil. One way is to have a dual system where you start and warm the engine with regular diesel and then change over to pure vegtable oil (PVO). You will have to change back to regular diesel before you get to your destination to clear the fuel lines of PVO.

The other way to do it is to refine or crack the PVO or Waste Vegtable oil (WVO) to make the hydrocarbon chains smaller and more esily combustable at low temps. This is a little harder and will cost you more than just buying diesel, unless your PVO or WVO is free.

Either way, vegtable oil will end deteriorating your fuel lines, so you will have to change these.
use cooking oil its cheap n ya car smells like a chippy

Does anyone else like the smell of car oil and sweat?

For some reason, I love the smell of car oil when I'm in a parking lot or a garage. I also like the smell of my sweat.

Is that something to worry about? lolDoes anyone else like the smell of car oil and sweat?
sweat not so much. car oil, me too, except im pretty sure it's not good for your lungs or anything but . . :PDoes anyone else like the smell of car oil and sweat?
i don't like those smells, but i don't think it's anything to worry about. i know people who love the smell of skunk and gasoline. i, personally, love the smell of chlorine.
    Sweat, no. Erm, no.

But I LOVE the smell of the gas when we pull up at a car station.
    Sometimes!?!?!?
Okay,I have to admit I do like the smell of car oil,but not my sweat.

    lol.
    Err, no.

What is a good additive for your standard car, engine lubricating oil or do you need it ?

For a motor car that is more than 10 years old and the engine is a bit noisy .What is a good additive for your standard car, engine lubricating oil or do you need it ?
The mileage and condition of your engine is to be considered too. You shouldn't need to use additives. Just use a good brand of oil and change every 3K. I ran a venerable 350 Chevy for 250K (that's a quarter of a million) miles. Every few years I you put a can of Restore in with an oil change. It's one of the few products that actually do any good. Change your air filter every 3 of 4 oil changes too. They are neglected on most cars. What is a good additive for your standard car, engine lubricating oil or do you need it ?
    Hi

I wouldn't advise using any sort of flushing agent which requires you to add it to the oil, run the engine for a few minutes, and then drain the oil. This will either break any deposits away in clumps and block the oil ways, or it will remove ';friendly'; deposits which have built up over the years and are actually keeping the cylinder compressions up.

If anything I would drain the old oil, fill up with a cheaper thinner oil, and run the engine for a day or two like that which will serve as a partial flushant. Drain the thinner oil and fill back up with the correct grade and a new oil filter, then stick a bottle of Slick 50 in there.

If the engine is old and noisy then thats the way it is, but you may be able to quieten it down slightly.

    Very best regards

    Geordie
Having had various oils etc tested , no, not if you use a premium product. A cheaper oil with extra additives is a very unwise solution. It can be like putting a few extra eggs in a cake mix and will not alter the fact that cheaper products usually deteriorate more quickly. The major petrol company products can be relied upon. Also Morris of Shrewsbury are very good and do a range of products with older vehicles in mind, including classic cars and bikes. They will also advise you by phone. I have no connection with them and never have had.
If the engine is noisy there is something wrong with it and putting in additives now will be too late and a waste of money.

Just use a reasonably priced branded oil in it of the correct specification and see how it goes.

Let a skilled mechanic listen to it and see if the noise is down to one item requiring repair or if the motor is just generally past its best.
I agree with Marvel Mystery oil, however, for long term slick stuff, I have gotten fantastic results from Greased Lightning products. I have noticed a quieter engine and the ptfe in it is the best amount and the cheapest price... I just buy the little bottle for 7.99 and not the whole quart of oil + for 13.99. I can buy all my oil for that price difference.
    Additive? Marvel Mystery Oil
    Valvoline is good. fjw15
    Just use 10W50 in it.......

How to stop my car from leaking oil?

I have a 1995 1.9L Merc Tracer 4 cyl 88hp automatic front wheel drive. I took it to a mechanic and he told me that the oil sending unit is the place it is leaking. I am wondering where the leak whould come from and if it is easy to fix, whether if it is the sending unit or something else. I have to put in a quart of oil every 2 weeks or so. The puddle of oil is hardly that big (drops of oil) but my car could deceive me. I think I lose most of my oil during my drive to where ever it is I go to. ThanksHow to stop my car from leaking oil?
An oil sender that is leaking is real easy to spot. The reason the puddle is small is that an oil sender leaks when the engine is running and the oil is under pressure, most of your oil is leaking while you drive. Clean the sender off and start the car. If it is the sender you should start to see oil starting to appear almost immediately. How to stop my car from leaking oil?
a product on the market thats real good is called Bar's leaks

    check out the link below
yes the oil sending unit is probualy wore out and stopped up.prob.need a new 1
If your mechanic is right it usually is fairly easy to fix. It honestly is impossible to know where it is leaking from without looking at your car - but I would say that the mechanic is probably right. It would be a good idea to replace the sending unit sometime in the near future (it could crack more and really pour out the oil). Personally I would pay someone to replace the sending unit instead of doing it myself simply because even though it is easy to replace, it is a job that given what it cost to pay someone, it isn't worth getting that messy and spending that much aggravation on. Also, you are right about it leaking more while you are driving. It really won't leak while the engine is off. It leaks only while the engine is running because that is when the engine is pumping the oil up to the sending unit (so it can measure the oil pressure) and no oil is reaching the sending unit while the engine is off. The engine actually has a pump to pump the oil around inside the engine. The oil you see in your driveway is from what has leaked onto other engine parts while you are driving and simply is draining off of those parts while the car is parked.
10 year old cars, even with minmimal use useally leaks oil. first fix the oil leak it might a gasket set in the engine. then do some preventive maintainance. Like change the oil at evry 4500 instead of 5000 kms. have it checked every 3000 kms for you to detec other future mechanical damages your car might have. it might be more expensive to maintain an older car but if you totally love your car it's the only way spend more for preventive maintenance.
    Replace the oil sending unit.
The mechanic who looked at it said it was the oil sending unit so replace the oil sending unit. It's easy to fix if you know what your doing.
tellm me about it, I have a warped aluminium engine block its warped and I can't do nothing about the slow leak
The oil sending unit is a screw in component, so either the sending unit is damaged (you'll need a special socket for it, and a new one for about $10-15) or the block is damaged (you'll need a new engine, or someone who can perform some expensive surgery to rebuild the threads).

  • How often does your car get an oil change?

Which answer best fits your car care habits.

    1. Every 3-4 thousand miles like the manual recommends.

Getting a car that leaks oil. How can you clean an oil spill?

I am buying a car that leaks oil and my landlord doesn't approve. She doesn't want oil leaks in the driveway. I would love to buy a different car but that is all I can afford. What is the best way to prevent or even clean up an oil spill? Best thing I can think of is parking the car on cardboard. Please help.Getting a car that leaks oil. How can you clean an oil spill?
my piece of crap car does the same thing. I went to the auto shop and they have a drip tray designed for it, its a huge rectangle silver things that you sit on the driveway or garage floor and you park your car over it. the oil drops into the tray. I put kittie litter in the tray, it soaks it up then i throw it out and re-lineGetting a car that leaks oil. How can you clean an oil spill?
go to your local auto parts place and they'll have products that will clean it up. Usually a kitty litter substance soaks up oil well. Find out where the leak is and have it fixed.
One word SAWDUST! It will suck oil out of concrete I've done it several times
    cat litter works well

How do you get car oil out of of a beige t shirt?

How often will you check your car's engine oil if it has mild leaking?

Will you check once a week, once per two weeks or others, and add more engine oil? Thanks in advance. How often will you check your car's engine oil if it has mild leaking?
I'd check it every day around the same time. If you check it in the morning it will be cooler than it will in the afternoon. You should check it every day in case it gets worse. You don't want to run your engine with low oil.How often will you check your car's engine oil if it has mild leaking?
When I have had a car where I notice it consumes oil, I would.

    a. Keep 1-2 quarts of extra oil in the trunk at all times.

    b. Check oil every time you put in gas... and that way you can also buy more oil at the gas station if you are running short on it.

Honestly how often you need to check really depends on how fast it is sucking down the oil. You should keep records to see how many hundreds or thousands of miles you drive per quart you add.

A decent motor should easily make 3000 miles proper oil change interval without consuming even 1 quart.

When I was a young man, I had a 1974 Mazda RX-2 rotary, and it would need a quart every 800-1000 miles or so, loved the car but I did blow the oil seals when I took it over 10,000 RPMs, great little motor but no rev-limiter, but hey if you know you are burning oil, and probably you can smell it, then you always have a little reminder to check that oil level.
Stop the leak, first. Most engines leak at valve covers, oil pressure sending units, oil pans, or engine seals. NEED MORE INFO!!!! What KIND of car is this??? Year, make, model, engine size, country of origin??? Many car engines only need their valve covers re-tightened or oil pans re-tightened. Power wash your engine to see things better. Then watch for the leak. Many engines leak because the oil pressure relief valveassociated with the oil pump, is full of sludge and can no longer do it's job. The result is too HIGH oil pressure that gets forced through ANY engine orifice. You might try a good engine de-sludging chemical, and then switch to a synthetic oil. NEVER look back. If it were up to me, regular oil would NOT even be made except for the mazda RX-7. ALl regular oils eventuially make sludge and cause premature engine wear and seal leaks, TH HERO is synthetic oil that cannot make sludge, and washes and protects selas AS YOU DRIVE. Good Luck!!
I'd check it every couple of days just to be sure, but best to get it checked because I thought my car had a small leak but when you are driving the car, the oil gets thinner when it's hot so It will leak more when driving. So you may be losing more oil than u think.. -dazzle
If its been leaking; Id check it every couple days to assess how bad it is and add oil as needed untill you can get the leak fixed.
Dont be cheap on your car.. if its leaking either park it and ride the bus train or go fix it now, before there is more damage
Check once every couple of days.

Some car dealers offer a free car wash and vacuum. Do car dealers' oil changers clean and wash cars too?

no,usually they have a certain person or people to do that ,I would you want a guy covered in oil washing and cleaning your car.I know I don't,that's the concept dealers use. Some car dealers offer a free car wash and vacuum. Do car dealers' oil changers clean and wash cars too?
At the dealership I work at it's 2 different areas. Clean up and Quick lube.

How do you find how much engine oil your car needs?

my grandma owns a '91 Toyota Camry and she doesn't have a owners manual for it, i already googled it but nothing shows up, where else can i get this information? How do you find how much engine oil your car needs?
me not being intimate with 91 Toyota's i would put 4 qts in it , start it and run for a minute while i check for leaks.

then shut it off ,wait a few minute's, check the dipstick. if it is not in the full range add another pint. (1/2 quart)

4 qts is always a safe start.

you can call your local auto parts store to find out what they recommend with/without new filter.

    P.S.

oil change at jiffy lube = 40$

being grandmas favorite = priceless. How do you find how much engine oil your car needs?
What do you mean by ';needs';. How much to fill it, how much to add, etc.

If you just want to check the level to see if it's low: Park car on level surface, let sit for about 5 minutes, pull the oil dip stick and wipe off, reinsert it fully for about 3 seconds and pull out, keep vertical and look near the end of it. The oil should have wetted the stick. It should be in the cross hatched area or in-between two notches on the stick. Usually from the bottom line on the stick to the top line is a quart.

Now if you're just wanting to know the capacity of the engine for oil, you've made me type a lot for nothing. I would guess it's a 4 cylinder engine. As a general rule 4 cylinder's take about 4 quarts. Be more specific next question.
In the owner's manual. Try the glove box. If not, get a manual from Pepboys or some other automotive store.
Call the dealer- and then order an owner's manual.
    5 qt with filter replace
take your car to jiffy lub, they will tell you how much oil was used

  • Does a car having an oil leak gas you to have to spend more money on gas?

My mechanic stated that I had an oil leak. I've noticed that I run out of gas rather quickly. If I fill up within a few miles the dial starts to move way below the ';full'; mark. Is there any correlation?Does a car having an oil leak gas you to have to spend more money on gas?
if you have a oil leak, it won,t use gas, but a gas leak will. better get the gas leak fixed, it,s dangerous.Does a car having an oil leak gas you to have to spend more money on gas?
You have to ask yourself this question did it use extra gas befor you found out it had an oil leak? The obvious answer would be yes. oil leaks shouldn't have any effect of fuel consumption.Get you gas tank and line checked by a reputable mechanic.
Read your sentence over very carefully. It makes no sense at all. Try asking a question that means something.

Not b****ing, just need more clarification.
oillevels heve nothing to do with the amount5 of gas you use

Besides the money point, why car places insist oil have to be changed every 3000 miles or 3 months?

My Honda Fit has a computerized oil reader that tells me when is time, usually past the 7000 miles.Besides the money point, why car places insist oil have to be changed every 3000 miles or 3 months?
The people that make the cars will typically reccommend 5 to 7,000 mile oil changes, while people that sell oil changes like to tell you 3,000 miles. Oil has gotten much better at reducing sludge, friction %26amp; carbon build up %26amp; doesn't tend to break down as rapidly due to heat as it once did (20 yrs ago). Most fleet managers get an oil change every 6,000 miles on their vehicles. Any more often is simply wasting money.Besides the money point, why car places insist oil have to be changed every 3000 miles or 3 months?
it keeps your warranty up to date. if you don't get the car serviced when they say then your warranty is kaput.
Well it depends on how much milage you have on your car. The higher milelage (over 50,000) usually requires more frequent changes.
Changing the oil frequently is hands down the cheapest and most effective preventitive maitenance you can do for your car. Changing your oil will keep your car perfoming at its best way past 120000 miles. Your fit is just telling you that its over due.
if you want to get the most miles out of your car .keep it serviced it will save you alot of money down the road.it also keeps the internal parts lubed as well, decreases carbon buildup.
When your Fit was new, on the window sticker it had a section that said ';estimated annual operating cost';.

In order to make that figure as small as possible, they just bumped the oil changes up from 3000 to 7000.

7000 miles is insane. It's so obvious when an engine has gone that long repeatedly just by opening the hood.

Oil breaks down and turns to crap.

Think of it this way. Try frying chicken in cooking oil. You can get 4 or 5 dinners out of the oil until it starts looking pretty nasty. Instead of changing it, just keep using it 4 or 5 more times. Same thing.
It's not a money point, most shops make hardly any profit off oil changes. Consult with your manual and live by that.
oil breaks down as it is heated up and down and not able to lubricate there for making things lock up

I was looking to buy a car and oil is leaking from the oil pump, how much does it cost to fix that?

the car is a 95 mitsubishi eclipse, and it seems like a great deal for the car and it's only problem is an oil leak, and I was wondering about how much that kind of thing would cost to get fixed?I was looking to buy a car and oil is leaking from the oil pump, how much does it cost to fix that?
I wouldn't buy it. The former owner might have run it low on oil and did major damage to the engine.I was looking to buy a car and oil is leaking from the oil pump, how much does it cost to fix that?
most oil pumps are inside the timing chain cover if you tear it down that far you might as well replace the timing chain or belt and the bottom main seal. or if it is out side mounted to the motor, driven off the serpentine belt then it is easy to replace
buy the oil pan gasket and find a mechanic and ask how much to change it.I would not think over $100.00 or ask the dealer or person to split the cost and you will buy the car.
I advise not buying it may have permanent damage done to it.
Ask a dealer - But it may be wise to avoid the car and look for another without the problem

How did my brand new car get an oil leak?

My car is an 05 Pontiac G6 Gt.... I dont know how in the world it could have an oil leak. I've never even had a car that had an oil leak... How is this possible to just get one??? Its covered under warranty so I dont have to pay for anything, its just weird. I've had 4 brand new cars, and this is the first one to ever have an oil leak. Its a great car overall, just never had this happen before. How did my brand new car get an oil leak?
It could just be sumthing as simple as a faulty gasket. When u think about how vehicles are massed produced sumthing simple could have been over looked. How did my brand new car get an oil leak?
You probably have a foreign car maybe Japanese - they usually have an oil leak but the dealership will be glad to fix it for you and usually at no cost.

I like your bathing suit - your a very good looking girl and have a wonderful body - Why would anyone want to say something negative about you or your picture.

    Oh, well ! ! ! !
have you gone over anythink and smashed the sunk bolt or put a crack in it where about is it coming from?
That is what warranties are for.

That is what recalls stand for.

And that is why American car manufacturers are losing ground to foreign car makers.
Maybe there was a problem with the car when you got it.The car dealer might have been lieing.
It's a Pontiac. Why are all North American car manufacturers going broke?
It's a Pontiac... they make fun looking cars but the quality is lousy.

...and since you got me started:

I HAD a brand new Chrysler 300M (original model). The heated seats went twice and they would not cover the replacement under warranty after 6 months. Had to replace the exhaust after 2 years... 2 YEARS! Add numerous other fit / function problems as well.

I now have owned a Toyota 4 Runner for 2-1/2 years, NO problems and I don't think I will ever go back to American cars.
    well here we are in 07, how is an 05 ';brand new?';
Bolts can work loose..... Gaskets can break........... ther's alot of reasons............
Please, tell us where the leak is! There are serious ones and easy ones. Among the serious ones are a leaking rear main seal, transmission, tail shaft, pan gasket ( oops ) silicone sealer leak.

What is the safest way to raise your car for an oil change?

I heard that using the spare tire jack is not safe to do an oil change. What is the safest way to raise your car for an oil change?
It is not unless you use two jack stands, even this is scary. Drive the vehicle up on approved ramps and block rear tiresWhat is the safest way to raise your car for an oil change?
The most frequent cause of death is the failure to stabilize a vehicle before climbing underneath it.

Jacks are never a safe way to support a vehicle. I know multiple people who have died relying on a jack to support their vehicle. I know someone who died last fall even. If you raise a vehicle, you must use a pair of jack stands on firm level ground or preferably pavement before climbing under the vehicle. I like to give the vehicle a good push in varying directions. I would rather it fall and do massive damage to my car than kill me. Ramps do the job, but I don't like them.

Also, always chock the tires to block the vehicle from moving in either direction. I know someone else who was on a slight slope and their truck ran over them and killed them. Wheel chocks would have saved his life.

  • How do I get car grease and oil off my kitten?

My new kitten got scared and climbed right under the parked car and now has a couple of oil/grease marks on his fur. Does anyone know a product that can clean it off. I am in Australia so would need products that we can buy here (I dont think we can buy Dawn here). Thanks!!!How do I get car grease and oil off my kitten?
just use any dish soap made for breaking up oils I know they used Dawn on the exxon/valdez im sure you can find it somewhereHow do I get car grease and oil off my kitten?
Get a pair of shears and give kitty a shave.
take that cat to the vet because it could harm the cat in a multitude of ways! oh and be a little more carefull of what your cat can do but it is nice to know that you are not irresponsible enough to leave the cat alone and not care that it got car grease and oil on it.
try using shampoo. or any kind of dish washing liquid. try not to get it in the kittens eyes. good luck!!
    Call up ';PetSmart';. Ask them
Just use any good quality baby shampoo.
Babyshampoo and cotton balls. Be sure to use warm water. You may have to do this more than one time. Are you going to keep the kitten inside? Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving!!
If you can't Dawn dishwashing liquid, try something comparable. Maybe you should try a shampoo for oily hair. If that doesn't help, call a vet!
    Reverse lol.
Take powdered laundry detergent, mix with a little water to make a paste and dab it on the grease/oil spots and let it dry. After it dries brush the cat off - the oil and grease should come off with the dried detergent. Or you could get scissors and trim the greasy hair off, the grease will be gone and the hair will grow back quick enough.
Lots of bad advice here many of the products suggested could be toxic to the kitten like goop for example. Diluted dishwashing soap without bleach or citrus could work be sure to rinse it off really well. Ideally you should call a vet or a groomer for advice kittens are very sensitive to toxins using the wrong product could make the kitten very ill or could be fatal.
awww. poor thing .....I would nottttt recommend bleach because that is dumb, but i would recommend you use tide without bleach my dog was in the same situation once and it got it off...im not 100% sure but im definitely sure that it wont hurt your kitten if it doesn't work.....
Well, I'm not particularly familiar with removing stains from cats. Try a dish washing soap that removes grease, something similar to dawn, or (don't know if you can get it in Australia) Goo Gone, Oops!, or something like that, a all-purpose remover that removes gum, grease, and stains, they usually remove grease pretty well. And good luck!
If you feel sure Dawn would work, try any dish washing liquid that does not contain bleach. The cheapest but mildest degreaseing dish soap you can find.

Also, I would try Goop. A product used by mechanics to remove grease from their hands, then soap.

    Good luck.
I think a little white vinegar would work. Put it on a soft towel. Don't pour it on the kitten though. Also, make sure the kitten does not lick the grease! My cat did that %26amp; got very, very sick.
Any degreaser will do like a different type of dish soap.
My cat got some oil on her once. We used Dawn the dish soap. Oo you just said you dont have it. Um well..... you could try soap and water. Sorry about that
Leave him alone. He'll lick it off.

    Stupid cat.

How can I tell that my car engine oil needs changing?

people say that a car may be driven for 3000 miles after a fresh oil change but what if the oil gets dark in colour like brown even though the car has only been driven for half that number of miles while the oil still feels very viscous when felt by hand fingers. How can I tell that my car engine oil needs changing?
sometimes if the temperature of the engine raises enough to change the colour of the oil and burn the oil. Since the oil is used not only as lube oil but also as coolant that takes away the small grained metal parts. Darkness of the oil occur due the presence of sulphur dioxide in it.How can I tell that my car engine oil needs changing?
ok so first off observe the color it is ok if it is lighter than a dark brown you dont wanna have a dark brown to black color it means its burnt. also this is weird but takesoome off the dipstick and smel it if it smells burnt its bad and also rub it between your fingers to see f there are bits of metal in it if there is that it is bad
    yep definitely ok.

anyone that has been around diesels knows that you can put brand new oil in them and then run the engine for an hour and the oil is dark dark brown or even black. it just means the detergents are working and keeping the contaminants suspended.

no big deal, just make sure you change your oil when it needs it.
You can't determine the condition of the motor oil from a visual inspection unless it shows signs of moisture. Follow the owners manual recommendations. It will tell you the best schedule to use for the driving conditions you experiance.
    no its ok..

Do you check oil in car when it's hot from running or cold? What kind of oil do you use in a '95 Saturn?

Do you check it with the car running or not?Do you check oil in car when it's hot from running or cold? What kind of oil do you use in a '95 Saturn?
check your oil level when engine is off.does not matter when it cold or hot. used 5-30 weight engine oil ,nothing fancy.Do you check oil in car when it's hot from running or cold? What kind of oil do you use in a '95 Saturn?
Hot or cold, matters not. If it's been running, wait five minutes or so for the oil to settle. Don't check it while its running...that's the transmission you check. Just make sure you're on a level surface.

    (psst...stick with what the owner's manual says...probably 5W-20 weight.)
wait ten to fifteen minutes after you turn your car off. you shoud use 10w30 any brand
you are supposed to do it when it is idleing, because if the car is off, more oil settles into the oil pan, and that is not the reading you want.
no cut it off and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the oil to drain back down, also 30 weight for summer driving 10w40 for winter driving.
engine off.....let it sit for a few minutes at least if been running
engine off! level ground. 10w40 cheap new oil.
You check the oil level when the engine is cold and preferably before u go anywhere the first time of the day. Example is right before you goto work then get in the car and off you go. For what type of oil, 5w30 or 40 should be sufficient.

What can remove or correct an car engine having oil gel problems?

A ';engine oil'; light and a slight tapping sound is coming from the engine. Checking the engine oil dip stick, shows no oil is circulating in through the engine. However there's no indicationsof a engine ';over heat'; condition while operatingWhat can remove or correct an car engine having oil gel problems?
Maybe the Oil sending unit has failed causing it no to be pumped thru the entire engine... if you find thick sludge like left over, you might want to have the engine (internal) high pressure rinced in order to remove all the trash inside...engine overheat will only warn you when the coolant is overheating it has nothing to do with the amount of oil in hte engine....What can remove or correct an car engine having oil gel problems?
Just because the engine isn't overheating doesn't mean that it isn't running low on oil.

If there's no oil showing on the dipstick, you need to add oil a quart at a time until it does show. Don't run the engine until you do so, or it might fail catastrophically.

Also, after adding oil, check for leaks and check the oil frequently and keep a careful watch on the level for a few days afterwards in case there's a hidden leak.

Is there any way too take off car oil stains on a driveway?

Go buy a bag of Oil dry and grind it in on the spot you want removed. Grind it in like your doing the twist or mashed potato. Sweep up leftovers. If you use enough Oil dry, it will only take like 10 mins. You pour, grind, and sweep. No need to let it sit for any length of time.

i worked at a gas station for 5 years and used this method myself. i was amazed everytime. of course, it dont take much to amaze me.Is there any way too take off car oil stains on a driveway?
Use kitty litter (the cheaper the better) to absorb the excess and follow up with Lestoil and HOT water.....Is there any way too take off car oil stains on a driveway?
We do our own oil changes and it's inevitable that we get oil everywhere. it just wouldn't be any fun if we didn't! We've always used kitty litter. After you pour it on there liberally, do the twist and try to grind that kitty litter into the concrete. chance are you won't be success full at grinding it into the concrete, but you should be success full at soaking up the oil. now we usually do this soon after we do the spill and then we still let the kitty litter sit overnight, or if were lazy, over a couple nights.

The dry concrete idea sounds like a good idea, but we have cats so we've always had kitty litter. if the oil's been sitting for a while, you might need to try to loosen it with gasoline or maybe even diesel fuel.
There are various products on the market for this. I've used Gunk in the past along with a wire brush. Follow the directions, scrub with the wire brush and most or all of the stain should be gone. The cleaned area will be slightly different in color from the rest of the driveway, but over time will blend in.
Use DAWN dish washing detergent. I used it last year on mine and it took it right up. I squirted it on the oil spot and rubbed it in with a stiff broom and hosed it off. Works better than any of them other ideas, I have tried them all and Dawn works best and easiest.Last year when there was a truck wreck spilling oil all over the interstate here in Cincinnati home of Proctor and Gamble who make Dawn , the fire department called P and G and requested some Dawn to clean up the mess and Pand G sent them over a truckload and it cleaned up the oil.
Use a little gasoline on it and then rub with a rag. Then put sand or dirt over it and scrub it in and then wash with powerful hose and detergent.
I have done 3 things with success.

    1. Cat litter overnite will absorb most of it up out of the concrete.

    2. Coca-Cola overnight and rinse.

    3. 3 scoops of Oxyclean desolved in 1 gallon of HOT water poured over the spill and leave on over night, rinse and you're good!

    Good Luck!
Mixed water with degreaser solution and spray over the concrete driveway and its surrounding walls affected by oil stains. Use a plactic brush to scrub the affected area. Let it stand for few minutes and rinse thoroughly.
let sun heat drive way, pour pure concrete on it ( NOT REDI-MIX) , let it sit a few hours and sweep. Do not wash. it should pull up oil stains.

How often should you change your car's engine oil?

I know someone that changes it every 3 months no matter how many miles she drives. Even after 1000 miles, she'll change it. Is she wasting her money? She drives conservatively, mild weather, normal driving conditions, etc.

Thanks. How often should you change your car's engine oil?
Oil starts breaking down @ 1700 miles, but breaks down a lot faster if not driven because moisture contaminates the oil and since not driven ( to remove contamination) the oil only gets worse. So no she is not wasting money, plus you cannot change your oil too much. Your are only protecting the engine that much more. How often should you change your car's engine oil?
The old rule of thumb has been every 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes FIRST.

however, recent studies have shown that you can easily go 5,000 miles, with no time restraint and be absolutely fine.

I always go by the mileage, and have owned my car for 5 years with no major problems (and put 130,000 miles on it)
every 6 months or 3000 miles (which ever comes first) and the filter has to be changed every other oil change.
Which ever comes last. 12/9 I was suppose to change my oil but I have only used 1,500 miles. I spoke with my dad who was a manager of goodyear and he said that I do not need to change it until I hit 3,000 miles or even 4,000. Just always make sure there is oil in your car. That is the important part.
With modern cars and modern oil the 3,000 oil change is not necessary. I still do it on the cars I have that were built in the '70s but on newer cars I follow the manufacturers recommendations. For my '94 Honda it is 7500 miles.
The oil changing period is determined in part by where and how you drive. If the vehicle is used for only short trips and never gets warmed up then sludge will occur and you need to change it sooner. If you drive a distance where the engine gets fully warmed up and on the highway the oil burns off impurities and lasts alot longer. That said oil is cheap insurance for an expensive part of your car, the motor. If you can't always change it when you should, it's better to buy synthetic base oil when you do change it
    3000 or 6 months..is fine,,,3 months is a waste of $...i change my oil every 5000...
here is what I do. I use mobile 1 and fram filters, I change the oil and filter lets say at 50k then at 55k I change the filter and add a quart of new mobile 1 then at 60k I do a complete oil and filter change. I keep doing this as long as I have the car, so far I have 131k on the engine and it runs fine in fact I will be leaving on a 2k trip with it next month. Ask your dad or grandpa how often they changed oil in the 50's no one changed oil like they do now and some of those old engines are still running. The oil co's love all you oil changers. All I can say is it works for me.
    every 3 months r 3000 miles
Your owners manual will have the info.

Many cars it's like 6 or 7k miles.

Environmentally speaking, you should change it according to your owners manual.

For me, when 3k pass, i try to remember to get in for an oil change.

And like an earlier poster mentioned, be sure to keep the oil levels in the safe zone.

  • Is it ok to put car engine oil to a motorcycle?

is it ok to put car engine oil to a motorcycle? Is it ok to put car engine oil to a motorcycle?
That depends on the motor. If it is a 4 stroke motor you should be alright but if it is a 2 stroke motor than you need special 2 stroke oil. This is because in a 2 stroke the oil gets mixed in with the gas. Some bikes automatically mix it for you but all 2 strokes have it mixed. Is it ok to put car engine oil to a motorcycle?
It's better than no oil. ,but considering motorcycle engines reach much higher temperatures, You might consider making an effort to get the right oil.
i am a new yahoo user ,i sell some product on yahoo .

this is my yahoo store http://www.llpshop168.com ,if i bother you ,i hope you can forgive me ,thank you for your time .i hope you can give me some suggest about my product.
Sure, but I always used synthetic in my bike, whereas I don't in my cars.
its best to run what the bike specs. say in owners manual. also dont run a synthetic oil, will cause clutches to slip.
You can't just use any car oil in a motorcycle.

Look at the back of the bottle. There will be circles that look like a target, if it says ';energy conserving'; put it back. There are friction modifiers in ';energy conserving';oil that will make the clutch on your bike slip and fail.

I've been using car oil in my bikes for many years and miles without a problem.

    M
if u ask a bike shop...they would say no cuz of the clutch that share engine oil. A car transmission is a separate unit so oil might be different.
yes if they are in same level of thickness as 10-30w.

How often should I flush my car engine and oil tank?

Quite often the workers at Mr. Lube asked me to flush the engine or oil (tank), how often should I do that? I always suspect those guys try to sell me the services. Any suggestions? How often should I flush my car engine and oil tank?
and that is all they are trying to do is pad their bill .unless they show you sludge from the engine ,your fine with just your oil change every 3.000 miles or three months. How often should I flush my car engine and oil tank?
Once a month just to keep it running smoothly.
if you change your oil the oil tank has been flushed

Those guys are just tiring to get some cash from your pocket

What can remove or correct an car engine having oil gel problems?

A ';engine oil'; light and a slight tapping sound is coming from the engine. Checking the engine oil dip stick, shows no oil is circulating in through the engine. However there's no indicationsof a engine ';over heat'; condition while operatingWhat can remove or correct an car engine having oil gel problems?
Just because you do not see oil on the dip stick does not mean there is no oil. If you do not see any thing on the stick you are At least 2 quarts low on oil. Most oil pans will hold 4 to 5 quarts of oil. Add 2 quarts of oil, check the stick and see where it is at. once you get the oil level up to where it needs to be, you need to check your oil at every fill up and add oil as needed. You may also want to look at changing the oil more frequently like every 2000 miles. What can remove or correct an car engine having oil gel problems?

If i add oil to my car's oil tank will that delay my oil change?

I'm a very busy guy and i need to get an oil change, the problem is that i have to drive 1 1/2 hours to get to my dealership to get the oil changed in order to have my warranty extended. If i just put some fresh oil on top of what i had, shouldnt that extend oil life a few days? i just think it makes sense that it would. If i add oil to my car's oil tank will that delay my oil change?
If you aren't worried about keeping the warranty on your vehicle then yes, you can just add oil. But I would want the warranty because it costs a hell of alot to replace or rebuild a motor when it blows. And it still isn't good for your vehicle to just add oil. It needs fresh oil to get rid of all the dirt and crap that is in the oil now.If i add oil to my car's oil tank will that delay my oil change?
It literally takes 10 minutes to change oil (well, if the mechanics any good!), maybe you could ring the dealership and explain to them you need it doing so you can extend your warranty, but have a lot going on, could they do it while you wait?

I think that would be the best thing, else you will still end up either losing your extended warranty, or paying for an oil change after you've done it yourself?
Adding to angels comment, when your oil gets dirty your filter can get clogged. When this happens a bypass valve on the filter housing will open allowing the dirt and carbon waste in the oil to flow to the bearings and rings, shortening engine life greatly.Tolerances will increase quickly.
    Nope.

Changing oil is not about how much oil is there. If you have an oil leak, then yes, adding some oil between changes is a good idea, but other than that your car does not use oil. The same oil they put in there last time is in there now.

Adding more would overfill it which is bad.

Over time the carbon breaks down and no longer provides good lubrication. It also get lots of little particles in it that make it less smooth. It has to be completely changed. Adding some small amount will make no difference.
A few days won't matter but . It's not just that it loses it's lubrication. what you have to realize is that old oild is very acidic and it eats away at the metal parts of the engine. Of you ared low on oil adding it is ok, otherwise I'd add an oil additive which will temporarily restore some of the oils lubricating ability
NO NEVER MIX OLD OIL WITH NEW
Very safe to mix fresh (even different brand) oil with old...... just it won't help anything nor hurt anything (probablly make you feel better at the most)

Just go to the dealer and don't worry.
SHO NUFF JES DON T GO OVER FILL THAT MF STR8 UP IT BE OK
no that could start a fire
No, wrong concept. Just get it changed as soon as you can get to it.
if you cannot produce documentation that your vehicle was serviced at the appropriate intervals your warranty won't be worth the paper it is written on. it's up to you to keep up with your end of the warranty agreement.
no dont do that its not safe and its not rigth !!! if you cant go to your dealership then just take it to a regular mechanic!!! it will be safe and you wont ruin your car by makin it wait
    sounds about right
If having a oil change done on your vehicle is too inconvenient for u, then u need to reevaluate your need for a vehicle in the 1st place...I agree with most of the other posts.
no - get the oil changed - cheaper than having it blow up on you, and then having to buy a new car

What is the difference between car engine oil and motorbike oil?

agreed on the clutch but also bike oil has to withstand ';shear';. this is the force from the cogs in the gearbox which tries to shear and compress the oil molecules. Bike oil has to stand very high revs and temperature changes.

Never add oil additives to bike oilWhat is the difference between car engine oil and motorbike oil?
4 stroke/2 stroke ?What is the difference between car engine oil and motorbike oil?
car and bike oil are completly different!

the clutch on a bike is actualy in the engine oil, if you use car oil in a bike youl get clutch slip.

    so bascialy the thickness
    price lol
    none?
motorcycle is thicker %26amp; last longer in high heat
The answer is in your question....

One is for a CAR and the other is for a MOTORBIKE.....
Car needs a oil with higher flash point as the engine horse power is more it has to withstand higher temperatures and need more lubriction compared to Bikes

86 Lincoln Town Car burning oil after replacing the valve cover gaskets. I have no idea what else it could?

Could a bad pcv valve have anything to do with this?86 Lincoln Town Car burning oil after replacing the valve cover gaskets. I have no idea what else it could?
i would say recheck the valve cover gaskets...just clean the topside of the motor one day, clean it all up, start the engine, and watch for the leak...86 Lincoln Town Car burning oil after replacing the valve cover gaskets. I have no idea what else it could?
i am assuming you mean its burning oil off the block and not burning internally if this is the case then you guessed right to change the gaskets but if it still doing the same thing it should be easy to trace where the oil is coming out at. Check the new gaskets the bolt pattern on the valve covers are terrible for those cars make sure its not still leaking from there. I never seen much oil escape from the PCV but i guess its possible and then check the oil sending unit which i believe is toward the back of the block.
There is a screen cartrige under the PCV valve that is most likley stopped up. Remove it with a long drywall screw and a pair of pliers. Clean it with carb cleaner or just replace it with the valve, they're cheap.
If your PCV valve is bad your valve covers should be leaking, anyway a new PCV valve shouldn't cost more than $4.

  • How do I get car grease and oil off of my shower without using any harsh chemicals?

The walls and the bumpy texture on the bottom of the tub are the toughest parts to clean. I have tried several things but none of them seem to work properly. everything you need to make this all-natural, mildly abrasive scouring scrub is most likely already in your kitchen.

Made with baking soda, vinegar and 10-12 drops of your favorite essential oil blend (to offset the vinegar smell), this 'recipe' comes from green living expert Laura Klein of OrganicAuthority.com.

This miracle mix is a powerhouse cleaning agent for sinks, bath tubs, toilets and anything else on which you would typically use an abrasive 'conventional' cleaner. According to the EPA, indoor pollution levels are typically higher then those outside your home, and traditional, chemical-filled cleaning products are contributors to this indoor pollution problem.

Plus, making your own cleaning products is not only better for your indoor environment (and outdoor, since nothing toxic is going down the drain), it鈥檚 less expensive.

According to Laura, vinegar is an all-natural anti-bacterial that kills 99% of all bacteria, 82% of mold and 80% of germs and viruses. So put it to work!

Here's what you need to make enough to last you a couple of months:

    * Large-mouthed glass jar with screw top lid that holds at least 2 cups

    * 2 cups of baking soda

    * 陆 cup of white distilled vinegar

    * 10-12 drops of essential oil (found at your favorite local natural food store or at MountainRoseHerbs.com)
eucalypyus oil is a natural degreaser, use liberally and wipe grease off with old piece towelling, scrub with a detergent(I use a natural cocnut oil based cleaner called 'salsuds', and if necessary scrub with borax or baking soda as an abrasive)

    low chemical, low allergy
lemon juice (pure) mixed with water will cut through grease and oil, or if you want something harsher vineger mixed with a small amount of water or you can use it straight (only good to use white vinegar however)
Sprinkle baking soda onto a damp sponge and scrub the greasy spots off. Then rinse with hot water and white vinegar.

    It works for me.
    use dish washing liquid
you could try putting bicarb soda on it %26amp; rub it in with half a lemon

What happens if you overfill a cars crankcase with oil, but never start the car?

If you put twice as much oil in as is recommended? And will all be well if you drain out the excess before starting the car? What happens if you overfill a cars crankcase with oil, but never start the car?
As long as you didn't start it, no problem. Just drain the excess out. What happens if you overfill a cars crankcase with oil, but never start the car?
Loosen the eng oil pan drain plug,And let it run out to correct level.
It's only a problem if you started it. The crankshaft would have churned it into foam.
No harm done, drain extra and you're on your way.
    nothing will happen

good think not to crank it.
Nothing will happen as long as you don't crank it, but you do not get any protection in any other areas of the motor. You need to drain to proper level, crank and/or run to circulate the oil, shut it off, then add the extra oil if you wish, but it doesn't do anything. But above all, you must remember to DRAIN before cranking!!
As stated above, you can drain the engine and set the oil to the correct level. No harm will come of it. If you were to attempt to start the car with that much oil, you can blow out seals as the pressure would be too much. Depending on what engine it is, with this much oil in it, your pistons would be sitting in oil and cranking will push the oil up past the rings into the combustion chamer. Nothing good will come of it.

What part of the car does Lucas Oil stabilizer get poured into?

I just purchased a bottle of Lucas Oil Stabilizer for my 97 accord. Does the stuff get poured into the engine? or is it

poured into the dipstick hole? Or is it a completely different location.? And when would be the best time to use it?What part of the car does Lucas Oil stabilizer get poured into?
best to use it during an oil change and supplement the 1 qt. of the lucas oil treatment for 1 qt. of oil and it pours into the oil fill cap on the valve cover on the engine. What part of the car does Lucas Oil stabilizer get poured into?
    The engine
i would take the oil cap off and pour it in there. it would take too long to pour it in the dipstick hole.
It goes into the normal filler at top, of your engine, i would like to advise you here , im not saying the stabilizer, so no good , but if i owned a 97 accord, the normal 3000mile oil change is all that is required, as long as you use the correct oil grade like 10 30 or 15 40, . depending where you live and temperatures.
Both will end up in the same place but through the oil filler cap will be the easiest
I would guess the oil fill cap but make sure not to overfill it. Typically the empty mark and full mark are 1 quart apart on the dipstick.
Sounds like you don't change your own oil. If that's true just take it to your oil change people to add with your next oil change.
Where you would put the oil. Some of the those products require you to put it in the crank case.
you need to pour this in the same place that you would pour in oil. this is an additive and to get the best results i would put in at the same time you change your oil

I have some general questions about car engine oil?

    1) How often should I change synthetic oil? I have heard 3k miles, I have heard 10k miles. Can I get away with 10k without doing damage?

    2) What is the difference between oils of different weight?

    3) I use 5W-40. What do those numbers and letters designate? Can I use 5W-30 without doing damage to my car?

Thanks in advance!I have some general questions about car engine oil?
    1) you change synthetic oil exactly the same frequency as conventional oil. Synthetic is best for extreme cold situations, such as Fairbanks, AK in the winter, because synthetics have much better cold-flow characteristics than conventional oil. The oil is not what ';wears out,'; but rather than additives, which are in the oil to keep your engine clean and free of corrosion (this is why you can find ';recycled'; oils such as Tech2000 or SuperTech on the shelves of many stores, they have simply cleaned the oil and put additives back in). The ';3,000 miles'; number is a holdover from 20 or 30 years ago. Both lubrication engineering and automotive engineering have made leaps and bounds since then. If your car is out of warranty, I would still recommend changing your oil every 5,000 miles, for two reasons: 1) your engine is well ';broken in'; by the time your warranty is out, and 2) it is an easy number to remember, no window sticker should ever be needed. A bonus to changing your oil every 5,000 miles is it is when you should be rotating your tires, so you can get it all done at the same time. BUT...if your car is still under warranty, then the only number that matters is manufacturer recommendation, which nowadays can be anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 miles. Do not second-guess either the engineers or the lawyers. Most new cars have oil monitoring sensors, so you should simply change the oil when the car says it needs changed (kind of like a newborn).

    2) and most of 3) Larger numbers mean higher viscosity; the W means the ';winterized'; weight, which nowadays has little to do with winter, and mostly to do with cold engine startup characteristics. Note the ';winterized'; characteristic of the oil is entirely a chemical additive which allows a thicker oil to perform as if it were a thinner oil. Nowadays all manufacturers recommend 5w30 or 5w20. Older cars (20+ years) recommended 10w30 or 5w30 for winter driving, and 10w40 or 20w50 for summer. The old belief was thicker oil protected better, while current modeling has shown the thinner oils protect as well as thicker oils, and, more importantly, begin protecting the engine sooner. Over 90% of the wear in your engine happens while the engine is cold, and the thinner oils can reach all parts of the engine much faster than thick oils. Next, the API ratings, now up to SM. These describe the oil additives, and how ';advanced'; the oil additives are. Different manufacturers may use different chemicals to achieve the same results, which is why it is recommended that you don't mix different brands. This is less of a problem nowadays, because the additive tests are so precise that there isn't a lot of different chemicals out there that will meet the SM tests...but the advice is still good.

    3) What weight does your car manual recommend? 5w40 is actually a diesel oil (instead of / in addition to SM, they will have a CJ rating) -- it is still fine for gas engines, but has additional additives for diesel engines. Conventional diesel oil is 15w40, the synthetics are 5w40...if you happen to care. Since you are already using a 5w, I'd either stick to 5w40, or switch to 5w30 -- unless you have a recent model Ford, Honda, or Chrysler, in which case you ought to be using 5w20.I have some general questions about car engine oil?
    Hello,

What vehicle are you driving? You should change your oil every 3000 miles.Do not go 10,000 miles, you will damage you motor! The owners Manuel will tell you what type of oil wt to use.Weather is the key on what type of oil to use.Like Temperature 32 and lower you need a light wt oil 5w-30 SAE or 10w-30.Remember It all matters what type of vehicle and engine you are driving. The WT on the oil is (Light 5W20 to 10W30) (medium 5W30 to 10W40 or (heavy5W40 to 10W50)

Synthetic oil is ok on some vehicle and bad for others. This oil is very very light Wt.I will not use this oil on my truck because its to light.

If you don't have a owners manuel call the dealer, Make of your vehicle

and they will tell you if you can use Synthetic oil for your engine.

    I hope This Help Pete

What can happen if you had about 1/4 the amount of oil in car?

I had about 1/4 on the line probaly a little more. I have a 1992 bmw 325is. It has always had a very light sounding engine but may have a knock now. Please tell me what could of happened.

And is there any special oil treatments that mat help it run smoother? What can happen if you had about 1/4 the amount of oil in car?
If you drove it very far... what could happen is you now need a new engine. What can happen if you had about 1/4 the amount of oil in car?
well for 1 thing, fill it up with oil. i dont know about the knock, sounds like you ran it too low and now you have a bearing knocking.
just keep a check on the oil.. as long as you havent run it out of oil you should be fine. as for a treatment try some lucas oil stabalizer. It helps out a lot. You can get it at auto zone or advance..
dont you ever check the oil and water on the car?

You are not supposed to run a car on too little oil because it is not enough to constantly circulate thru the engine and lubricate the workings. You may have done some minor wear damage to some parts. Wake up.

Engine oil alone is all that is necessary to maintain your engine and most of the engine additives you see on the store shelves are just a lot of bull crap. AMSOL does however make some useful additives.
Ti is vary important to check your oil and other fluids once a mouth. If it is making different noise since the oil was low you shod take it to a mechanic. Also getting a tun up Wood not hurt.
You ran too low on oil, in a car that old, it can cause alot of problems because seals and rings and such are already old. the knocking is probably irreversable now. I would make sure there is nothing else except age that caused the oil to go that low (leaks and such)

Stay on top of the oil level.

Car leaks oil when running, recently was smoking from exhaust manifold while driving, engine was covrd in oil?

(1992 Plymouth Sundance) So recently i was driving and i noticed that car was smoking under the hood. When i pulled over, there was oil all over the entire engine, just covered. The exhaust manifold was smoking like crazy. I checked for leaks, and there is a slight leak only when the car is running. The actual oil level didn't seem to fluctuate noticeably. Today i just got an oil chaange. So what could be wrong and was getting an oil change a bad idea?Car leaks oil when running, recently was smoking from exhaust manifold while driving, engine was covrd in oil?
actually like the other guy said probably a valve cover gasket, if the leak is above the exhaust manifold, thats more than likely the problem, easy fix.Car leaks oil when running, recently was smoking from exhaust manifold while driving, engine was covrd in oil?
you probably blown a valve pan gasket or the pcv valve is stopped up. i think i would have fixed the oil leak before i got a oil change.
an oil change is NEVER a bad idea. most likely a valve cover gasket.

  • I have a 1997 Eldorado Cadillac of which oil gaskets are dried out & the car leaks oil?

on the floor. What is the least expensive way to fix this problem. Please Give some inexpensive suggestions.I have a 1997 Eldorado Cadillac of which oil gaskets are dried out %26amp; the car leaks oil?
firstly, if its a brown oil its engine oil and if its a transparent red its transmission or power steering, secondly found out exactly where the oil is leaking from, i can only guess its most likely engine oil and leaking from the oil sump, this is a square tray with about 12 bolts bolting it the the bottom of the engine, get a new oil sump gasket then remove the bolts on the sump, be aware that oil will come out as you loosen them, then replace the gasket on the edge of the oil sump after removing the old one and bolt back on evenly and tightly, all this will cost you about $15 US for the gasket depending on what type of car it is, if the oil is power steering or tranny or is leaking from somewhere else just email me from my profile page and i will tell you how to fix the other leaks or i can give you a more detailed guide...I have a 1997 Eldorado Cadillac of which oil gaskets are dried out %26amp; the car leaks oil?
there is only one way to fix it properly. put in new seals. If you want it to do it cheaper, do it yourself or take it to an independent shop. dealerships charge more but are more expert. you can shop around for the best deal on parts but there are no real shortcuts you can take that wouldnt drastically shorten the life of your car.
