What is a good additive for your standard car, engine lubricating oil or do you need it ?

For a motor car that is more than 10 years old and the engine is a bit noisy .What is a good additive for your standard car, engine lubricating oil or do you need it ?
The mileage and condition of your engine is to be considered too. You shouldn't need to use additives. Just use a good brand of oil and change every 3K. I ran a venerable 350 Chevy for 250K (that's a quarter of a million) miles. Every few years I you put a can of Restore in with an oil change. It's one of the few products that actually do any good. Change your air filter every 3 of 4 oil changes too. They are neglected on most cars. What is a good additive for your standard car, engine lubricating oil or do you need it ?
Hi

I wouldn't advise using any sort of flushing agent which requires you to add it to the oil, run the engine for a few minutes, and then drain the oil. This will either break any deposits away in clumps and block the oil ways, or it will remove ';friendly'; deposits which have built up over the years and are actually keeping the cylinder compressions up.

If anything I would drain the old oil, fill up with a cheaper thinner oil, and run the engine for a day or two like that which will serve as a partial flushant. Drain the thinner oil and fill back up with the correct grade and a new oil filter, then stick a bottle of Slick 50 in there.

If the engine is old and noisy then thats the way it is, but you may be able to quieten it down slightly.

Very best regards

Having had various oils etc tested , no, not if you use a premium product. A cheaper oil with extra additives is a very unwise solution. It can be like putting a few extra eggs in a cake mix and will not alter the fact that cheaper products usually deteriorate more quickly. The major petrol company products can be relied upon. Also Morris of Shrewsbury are very good and do a range of products with older vehicles in mind, including classic cars and bikes. They will also advise you by phone. I have no connection with them and never have had.
If the engine is noisy there is something wrong with it and putting in additives now will be too late and a waste of money.

Just use a reasonably priced branded oil in it of the correct specification and see how it goes.

Let a skilled mechanic listen to it and see if the noise is down to one item requiring repair or if the motor is just generally past its best.
I agree with Marvel Mystery oil, however, for long term slick stuff, I have gotten fantastic results from Greased Lightning products. I have noticed a quieter engine and the ptfe in it is the best amount and the cheapest price... I just buy the little bottle for 7.99 and not the whole quart of oil + for 13.99. I can buy all my oil for that price difference.
Additive? Marvel Mystery Oil
Valvoline is good. fjw15
Just use 10W50 in it.......
