How can I tell that my car engine oil needs changing?

people say that a car may be driven for 3000 miles after a fresh oil change but what if the oil gets dark in colour like brown even though the car has only been driven for half that number of miles while the oil still feels very viscous when felt by hand fingers. How can I tell that my car engine oil needs changing?
sometimes if the temperature of the engine raises enough to change the colour of the oil and burn the oil. Since the oil is used not only as lube oil but also as coolant that takes away the small grained metal parts. Darkness of the oil occur due the presence of sulphur dioxide in it.How can I tell that my car engine oil needs changing?
ok so first off observe the color it is ok if it is lighter than a dark brown you dont wanna have a dark brown to black color it means its burnt. also this is weird but takesoome off the dipstick and smel it if it smells burnt its bad and also rub it between your fingers to see f there are bits of metal in it if there is that it is bad
yep definitely ok.

anyone that has been around diesels knows that you can put brand new oil in them and then run the engine for an hour and the oil is dark dark brown or even black. it just means the detergents are working and keeping the contaminants suspended.

no big deal, just make sure you change your oil when it needs it.
You can't determine the condition of the motor oil from a visual inspection unless it shows signs of moisture. Follow the owners manual recommendations. It will tell you the best schedule to use for the driving conditions you experiance.
no its ok..
