I have been reading stuff online lately and I'm getting mixed signals. I added synthetic oil to my car but I have no synthetic oil handy and it really needs oil. Can I add non-synthetic oil to my car without doing any harm?
I won't lie, I don't understand completely all the technical stuff some people write down- just please tell me if it's safe to add non-synthetic to my engine, already using synthetic. Can I switch my car oil from synthetic to non-synthetic?
yes it will be ok to add just so regular oil for the mean time...Can I switch my car oil from synthetic to non-synthetic?
on each oil can there is a circle with SAE with SD (some re made for diesel )make sure the weight of the oil is the same. I was told that the synthetic has a different molecular structure. The non synthetic oil is made up of hydrogen and carbon. The synthetic is mainly Silicone but Carbon and Silicone are in the same family in the periodic table but they have subtle differences in their behavior and chemical properties. I was told you can switch them but never mix them
Yes you can add but you should get an oil change as soon as possible with the correct oil. Make sure during your oil change that the old oil is flushed and if your car requires synthetic to only use synthetic. You should always use the same oil brand and type that you used when you made the first oil change assuming you bought the car new. Do not skimp on type of oil just to save a penny, that saving a few pennies could cost you thousands.
When you change your oil to a different type you normally don't drain the oil from the oil filter, so whatever oil you use it will always be mixed with the oil left within the engine, have you ever heard of a failure due to this.
It's safer than running out of oil.
But generally you shouldn't. Once you go full-syth you should stick to it.
A vehicle with full-syth in it usually needs it. e.g. turbo or super-charger.
If you just used syth for the hell of it, you can go back.
