How do you know what kind of oil your car needs?

I dont have it written down.

I'm a dummy when it comes to cars. How do you know what kind of oil your car needs?
You can find this information in your owners manual. If your car is new, it should be marked in the engine oil filler plug. Most old cars uses 10W30 which is the most common grade of oil used in any type of automobile. Most newest cars (majority) still uses 10W30 and some uses 5W30. When in doubt, always use 10W30 because it is the most common grade of oil no matter what size of an engine is being used in an automobile. I always used synthetic oil. It is cleaner (no build up gum on the engine), easier to start and there's always oil on all moving parts compared to any conventional oil (parts are dry). Synthetic oil are very expensive, but it is the best oil compared to the regular oil. Good luck...How do you know what kind of oil your car needs?
If you don't have the cars book, any spare parts shop will know the right oil.
