What is the best car engine oil I can use to prevent oil burn / loss?

My car is a 1998 Mitsubishi Montero LS (Mid-Size SUV).

Please include in your answers where I can buy that type of engine oil as well. What is the best car engine oil I can use to prevent oil burn / loss?
I would highly recomend an oil called - Castrol High Milage!!You can buy it at any Walmart or most department stores or automotive stores. Walmart carries it in the 5 quart jug - which I prefer. What is the best car engine oil I can use to prevent oil burn / loss?
In my extensive years of auto mechanics, my theory on engine oil is whatever trips your trigger man. Seriously, I have used just about every one that's on the market, and if you are worried about engine oil burn off first do this. Look at the exhaust. Is there a blue cloud at start up? If so that tells me your valve seals could be worn, or your rings. Is there a cloud following you as you drive? If so the same rule applies. This is only if smoke is visable. If no smoke is visable, then you will have some usage of engine oil due to simple viscosity breakdown. As engine oil heats up parts of the molecular structure breaks down because your engine oil is not only used for lubrication purposes but also for sealing compresion in the cylenders and for cooling purposes. So naturaly you will have some engine oil loss even if it's slight. As for wich oil is better, it's a matter of personal preferance, but myself I would recomend a southern base oil such as chevron, valvoline, havoline, ect. as opposed to penzoil, quaker state, ect. Southern base oils if you happen to be a little laps on keeping up on your oil changes, tends to not sludge up in the engine like pensilvenia grade crude based oils do. The oil you choose to buy can be bought at the same place you buy your oil filter at. Also, you may want to add some STP oil treatment. It's not necessary but I've found from using it in my demo cars it helps. Good luck and keep your wheels on the pavement and out of the ditches.
Try 80/90 rear end grease. That'll plug up what ever is loose in the old girl.

Seriously, you NEED to find out WHERE the oil is getting into the combustion chamber. If it is bad oil control rings or loose and worn valve guide seals. you need to GET IT FIXED.

Haven't you heard og the Green revolution sweetie? Your not only consuming MORE oil by actively burning it, but you are NOT contributing (and defeating) to all of our combined efforts to help clean up the air. Here you are ';puffing'; around looking for some sludge to put into your engine rather then doing what is right.
Synthetic oil has a higher viscosity to restrict oil burn. I use ';Castrol GTX'; full synthetic from Autozone. Just grab the weight that your vehicle uses. It will cost more though. You can also opt for the ';Slick 50'; oil additive, which works great too.

There's also ';Royal Purple';, ';Penzoil';, ';Lucas'; and many more.

Good luck.
your owners manual will give you agrade of oil to use. Generally, andy good brand of oil will work very well. Just be sure to change the oil filter when changing the oil.

andy auto parts store, or target or wal-mart will carry almost all brands
Synthetic oil is the best, and longest lasting. You should always change your oil every 4000 miles I think it is. With synthetic you can go a bit longer.
