What makes a car burn oil faster than usual and does it have anything to do with age and miles?

I own a 03 Hyndai Elantra with 125,000 miles on it and recently it has burn burning oil a little faster than usual. Who should I take my car to so they can better evaluate this problem? What makes a car burn oil faster than usual and does it have anything to do with age and miles?
Cars normally burn more oil as they wear. Oil rings wear and allow some oil into the combustion chamber. Nothing can fix this except rebuilding the engine. Eventually you will start to see blue smoke from the exhaust. At that point start looking for a new car. What makes a car burn oil faster than usual and does it have anything to do with age and miles?
ok i read the first two answers and heres a lil trick to try before you see a mechanic. If you do your own oil changes go buy a pint of marvel mystery oil. When you are ready to change the oil before you do anything add the marvel mystery oil to the engine oil and run the car for about 5 minutes then turn the car off and drain the oil and the marvel mystery oil you just added. Be sure to change the oil filter. Replace the engine oil as directed with the proper weight and there is a product at your local auto parts store called engine restore add this to your oil. Be sure get the right can for the appropriate number of cylinders. This may not make your car new again but it should prolong your situation and also possibly repair some of the valve wear and chamber scarring
Burning oil can be 2 different problems that would be related to the miles on the car and the care of the car.

Could be a oil ring that is no longer seating or it could be the valves that are now worn.

Before having the car worked on by a local mechanic think about replacing the car as it may not be worth the cost of repairs.
I agree with the last answer but, do you have any oil leaks? At 125,000 miles your engine is going to burn some oil but vavlve cover gasket leaks are more common. Do you change the oil? That could be another reason. Go to a mechanic and have them inspect it.
take it to a good mechanic and they will be able to diagnose your engine problem on why it's using more oil.
